Detached Chalet Bungalow Transformation with New Cladding, Roofline and Modern Flush Casement Windows – Quidhampton

Before after new cladding windows on gable end - Quidhampton

The Challenge

The property, a charming chalet bungalow, had begun to show its age. The tile-hung dormers and painted rendered gable elevations created a dated appearance while requiring ongoing maintenance to keep them looking their best. The original windows were also showing signs of wear and offered lower levels of thermal efficiency compared with modern glazing.

The homeowners wanted to completely transform the property’s exterior with a contemporary, low-maintenance finish that would enhance its appearance, improve energy efficiency and provide long-lasting durability. They were looking for a complete exterior renovation that would deliver a cohesive, high-quality finish and add lasting value to their home.

The Solution

We carried out a comprehensive exterior renovation to give the property a contemporary appearance while improving its long-term performance and durability. The project began with the careful removal of the existing tile-hung dormers. For the gable elevations, we fixed treated timber battens directly through the existing painted render into the underlying brickwork, avoiding the need to remove the original render. Following the installation of a breather membrane, our cladding specialists fitted textured Boothbay Blue Hardie® Plank fibre cement cladding to both the dormers and gable ends, creating a striking, low-maintenance finish.

To complete the external refurbishment, we removed the existing fascias, soffits and rainwater system, replacing them with new white uPVC fascias, soffits and guttering to provide a durable, low-maintenance roofline.

The final stage of the project was the installation of new white uPVC flush casement windows and matching French doors throughout the property. Replacing the original glazing with modern, energy-efficient units completed the transformation, giving the home a cohesive, contemporary appearance while improving thermal performance and reducing future maintenance.
