Replacing rotting mock Tudor and damaged render with Replica Wood and aluminium composite panels in Nottingham

Before after mock Tudor replacement Nottingham

The Existing Condition and Client Brief

The property featured traditional wooden mock Tudor boards set against a white cement render. Over time, the exterior had degraded significantly; the existing timber boards were actively rotting and looking extremely tired, while the cement render had cracked and was missing in several places. Additionally, the left gable elevation suffered from structural degradation with compromised rafters, and the existing wooden bargeboards and soffits were showing significant signs of rot.

Our customer’s primary objective was a complete exterior and structural renovation. They wanted to restore the classic, sharp black-and-white aesthetic of their home, repair the failing roof structure, and strictly required an upgrade to modern, high-performance materials that would eliminate the need for ongoing maintenance and future repairs.

Solution - Replica Wood, Aluminium Composite Panels, and uPVC

Following an assessment of the failing exterior, a comprehensive modern system was specified to replace the timber, wet render, and degraded roofline.

For the main elevations, white Aluminium Composite Panels (render boards) were selected. This provided a smooth, uniform surface for the external cladding without the significant cost, time, and mess associated with traditional wet rendering. Black Polyurethane Replica Wood Tudor Boards were chosen for the detailing, perfectly mimicking the authentic texture of traditional oak while providing superior long-term resistance to weathering.

To address the roofline and structural issues, high-quality uPVC was specified to replace the rotting wooden bargeboards and soffits. Furthermore, a complete structural timber repair and reroofing strategy was outlined for the left gable elevation to restore the property’s structural integrity.

The Material Consultation

During the initial site visit, the surveyor assessed the extent of the rotting timber, failing render, and compromised roof structure. The customer was shown samples of the Polyurethane Replica Wood and uPVC roofline, allowing them to see the quality firsthand and understand how the Aluminium Composite Panels would create a perfectly flat background. Based on the requirement for absolute zero maintenance and structural safety, this combination of modern materials and targeted roofing repair was approved.

Installing the Replica Wood, Render Board, and Roofline System

Black Polyurethane Replica Wood Tudor Boards were mapped out and securely fixed over the panels to recreate the property’s classic architectural lines.

The left gable elevation was carefully stripped back to expose the compromised structural timbers. All degraded rafters were removed and replaced with robust structural timber, followed by a complete reroof of the left gable elevation.

The rotting wooden bargeboards and soffits were entirely removed and replaced with highly durable, weather-resistant uPVC roofline products to secure the roof perimeter.

The existing rotting timber cladding and old, cracked cement render were completely stripped back from the external walls, and the exposed substrate was fully cleared and prepared.

White Aluminium Composite Panels were installed across the elevations, delivering a smooth, uniform backing finish and completely bypassing the extended drying times of traditional cement rendering.

The Final Result

The installation completely transformed the tired, degrading exterior into a pristine, sharp black-and-white mock Tudor façade with a fully secured and structurally sound roof.

The updated exterior successfully retains the traditional character the customer loved, while significantly upgrading the property’s weather resistance. By executing a complete reroof on the failing gable and moving away from timber and wet render on the elevations, the completed system delivers a durable external envelope with improved long-term performance, removing the cycle of patching render and treating rotting wood forever.

Replica Wood Mock Tudor – Key Questions

What are Replica Wood Tudor boards made from?
They are manufactured from high-density polyurethane. This provides a lightweight, highly durable alternative to traditional timber that accurately replicates the texture and grain of real oak.

Is this system low maintenance?
Yes. Unlike traditional timber and cement render, polyurethane and aluminium composite panels do not require regular painting, varnishing, or patching. Periodic cleaning is sufficient to maintain their pristine appearance.

Will the Polyurethane boards rot or warp?
No. Polyurethane is completely impervious to moisture, meaning it will not warp, shrink, expand, or rot in the same way traditional wooden Tudor boards do.

Why use Aluminium Composite Panels instead of wet render?
Aluminium Composite panels (render boards) provide a perfectly smooth, uniform backing for the Tudor boards. They are incredibly durable and completely eliminate the mess, high labor costs, and long drying times associated with applying traditional wet cement render.
